Youth experiencing homelessness across America are at a substantially heightened risk of falling victim to human trafficking due to their increased vulnerability. Urge your elected officials to cosponsor the Runaway and Homeless Youth and Trafficking Prevention Act to ensure resources are made available to these young people to help reduce their vulnerability to exploitation.
Access to emergency housing, crisis intervention, and basic needs for youth experiencing homelessness is critical in preventing this population from becoming victims of exploitation. While the federal government has provided funding for programs serving this population, currently, the need far exceeds the funds available. With an estimated 4.2 million youth and young adults experiencing homelessness in this country, only about 25% are able to access services due to a lack of funding.
To address this discrepancy, please urge your Members of Congress to support the Runaway and Homeless Youth and Trafficking Prevention Act, which provides support for critical programs serving the needs of homeless youth and specifically includes resources for human trafficking survivors.
Please email, tweet, or call your elected officials today and ask them to pass this important piece of child and youth-centered legislation!
