Support Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
Dear Vincentians,

Now that the mammoth tax reform legislation has passed we can turn our attention to specific issues that we know will impact the people we serve. An immediate opportunity to be a Voice for the Poor is the renewal of the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

This program has always received broad bipartisan support but when it came up for renewal in September the bipartisan support broke down over how to fund the program. It now appears to have a good chance of being renewed with at least a short term fix.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul has always supported this legislation as it positively helps so many of the families we serve.  The children served are often those of the working poor who do not qualify for Medicaid funding. The Voice of the Poor committee and past president Sheila Gilbert sent out an action alert when the CHIP legislation came up for renewal. For more information on the program I will suggest reviewing what was presented at that time.

You are receiving this alert because you have signed up to be part of our Voice of the Poor efforts. I know it is a hectic time of the year but the process of letting your voice be heard is quite simple using this Voter Voice program. I hope you and your family have a blessed Christmas.
