Your advocacy is working! A number of the most egregious measures in the initial budget outline slashing Medicaid have been eliminated; most prominently (and most definitively) the Head Start program has been saved. But the fight is not over, and the House may vote as early as today or tomorrow on some version of a budget bill that will grievously wound Medicaid as we know it.
A majority in the House of Representatives voted to cut nearly a trillion dollars from its federal funding, and were this to happen, Medicaid would be a vestige of its previous self. As our healthcare system is structured, Medicaid is an indispensable resource for the poor and middle class, and is the primary source of funding for long-term care, critical for America's elderly and disabled.
It is especially important as it is the primary means of funding services for some of the most vulnerable in our society: people with disabilities. Medicaid pays for the support systems that enable people with disabilities to live full and independent lives in the community. Without this funding, people have to rely on their family members to provide care; with the funding, they can enjoy full and productive lives.
Preserving Medicaid and all the human flourishing it enables is of the utmost importance. Please use the button below to tell your story to your federal representatives in the House and Senate and tell them why Medicaid funding must be protected and maintained. We provide a sample script for you.
We are grateful for all that you do to further our systems advocacy goals; thank you.
