The deadline to transition consumers and their workers is rapidly approaching. The Department of Health is not sharing the exact numbers of consumers that are fully enrolled and "payroll ready" to keep personal attendants working after April 1st. Based on the numbers they have shared, we know that a complete transition that ensures services for all consumers is unlikely and lives are at serious risk. This deadline looms large over the ability of many in New York to remain outside of hospitals and nursing homes by receiving vital personal care services at home, like eating, bathing, toileting, and simply transferring out of bed. There is no backup after April 1st! We need to demand a delay NOW to protect the lives of people with disabilities.
We need advocates to write and/or call their representatives in the Assembly and Senate, as well as the Governor and Lt. Governor. Tell them to urge leadership to delay the CDPA transition! This transition deadline must be pushed back so that CDPA consumers are not at risk of losing vital services simply because of an arbitrary and unrealistic deadline imposed on them.
