A Just, Equitable and Sustainable Farm Bill
Background:

The Farm Bill is an important piece of legislation that determines what food is grown, how it’s grown, and how affordable the food is. If you eat food, it affects you! The Farm Bill also funds the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which provides food benefits for low-income families, and other vital anti-hunger programs nationally and internationally. The current farm bill expired in September and was extended until September 30, 2024.

There are 2 major issues with the proposed current plan:

-Severe cuts to SNAP benefits

-Removing climate change conservation programs

If you watched the movie, Common Ground, then you remember the problems with traditional agriculture. We need to focus money and education on Regenerative Agriculture. You also learned of the problems with our current food system.

We are advocating for a Farm Bill that:

- Helps alleviate hunger nationally and internationally.

- Supports local and regional food systems and the farmers of those systems.

-Funds a food system that benefits the planet, protects the environment and addresses climate change, by including 100% of the conservation funding of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022

-Advances racial justice and equity in our food systems

-Provides HEALTHY food access for low-income families, specifically SNAP programs

The farm bill connects the food on our plates, the farmers and ranchers who produce the food, and the natural resources our soil, air and water – that make growing food possible. Every person has the right to sufficient, nutritious food to lead a healthy and dignified life.
