The Sisters of Notre Dame passed a corporate stance opposing human trafficking in 2008.
They continue to work on abolishing human trafficking, supporting and offering assistance to those who have been trafficked, educating people about the warning signs of trafficked persons and the threat online platforms pose to children and teens, as well as advocating for policies that bring an end to human trafficking.
Every child must be protected from violence and exploitation in person and online. When children are online, they are groomed to share personal information, images and their data.
There are currently 2 bills that are being called to a vote in the next few days that would protect children and teens online.
S. 1409 The Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) sets requirements for social media platforms to put the well-being of children first, and provides young people and parents with the tools, safeguards, and transparency they need to protect against online harm.
S. 1418 The Children and Teen's Online Privacy Protection Act COPPA) sets a limit on data collection on minors.
The Alliance to End Human Trafficking, a collaborative of U.S. Catholic Sisters that works to eradicate trafficking, supports these two bills.
