The Kidney PATIENT Act is bipartisan legislation that is critically important to preserving access to needed and affordable medications to millions of vulnerable dialysis patients across the country.
The bill not only ensures that patients with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) receive treatment, but also saves taxpayers money according to its sponsors, by delaying the inclusion of oral-only drugs in the Medicare ESRD prospective payment system.
Keeping these drugs outside of the ESRD prospective payment system will allow additional much-needed time for payers and providers to work out a series of technical challenges that otherwise will pose significant barriers to my most vulnerable patients receiving their medications.
