Homeownership is the key to building household stability, generational wealth, and thriving communities — yet it remains out of reach for far too many Oregon families. I am writing today to urge you to take meaningful action to address our state’s housing crisis by advancing policy changes and investments designed to increase affordable homeownership supply, access, and stability.
Here’s the reality:
- Oregon is currently short by nearly 75,000 housing units.
- Oregon needs to produce approximately 500,000 units over the next 20 years.
- Home prices have nearly doubled in the last decade.
- Our state ranks 43rd in the nation for homeownership — we must do better!
We thank Governor Kotek for prioritizing general fund investments in affordable homeownership in her recommended budget. These proven programs will:
- Boost the production of entry-level homes statewide.
- Expand access to homeownership, particularly for first-time and first-generation buyers.
The Unlocking Homeownership Coalition is pushing for people-first policies that make homeownership attainable for all Oregonians. We urge you to join us in championing affordable homeownership through bold policy reforms and strategic investments in Oregon's 2025 Budget.
Together, we can make the dream of homeownership a reality throughout Oregon.
