Protect Children with Profound Autism in Indiana
Recently, Indiana's Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) announced that it would cap applied behavior analysis (ABA) services to children with autism at 30 hours a week for a maximum of 3 years. Many children with profound autism rely on ABA therapy to literally help them communicate, connect, and remain safe in their environment.
Make no mistake, autistic children who require round-the-clock care will bear the brunt of these arbitrary cuts. Bureaucratic limitations of medically necessary care will only result in more significant costs for Indiana in the future.
Fortunately, Rep. Becky Cash has filed a bill to address this discrimination. House Bill 1414 would require FSSA to provide an analysis of the impact of the proposed cap. It is essential that this bill passes this legislative session.
