Why should that matter? Without research, it is difficult to establish and implement meaningful supports and services that are in critically short supply for people with profound autism.
Not only do we need continued research, but that research must be inclusive of autistic people who require lifetime, 24/7 care. Currently, only 6% of clinical research includes people with profound autism.
We have been advocating with members of the US House of Representatives and Senate to ensure that Autism CARES isn't just reauthorized, but it includes new language that will address this disparity.
The most powerful advocacy is that of constituents. That's why we ask that you take a moment to request that your members of Congress:
- Ensure that profound autism is included in Autism CARES,
- And the legislation passes before it sunsets on September 30.
We've made it simple for you to do so in the provided template. Simply share your story in the space provided. When you enter your address, your legislators will be automatically identified for you.
Thank you for taking a moment to take action! Once you have done so, please make sure to share this with your family, neighbors, and friends. It's a great way for them to provide support.
