August has finally come, and this month, Congress takes its annual recess. For grassroots advocates, however, this period is more than just a summer break; it’s an opportunity to amplify their voices and drive meaningful change. August recess is vital for PVA, and you can leverage this time to make the most impact.
Most members of Congress return to their home districts and states. This presents a great time for constituents to meet with their elected representatives on their home turf. These in-person meetings provide a platform for grassroots advocates to present their issues directly, continue to build personal connections and influence policy discussions.
Legislators will be out in the community at events such as town halls, celebrations, and other community-led events. Members of Congress will be preparing for elections and the fall session, and with it, you can help shape their priorities and agendas. Here are a few of our key priorities you can use:
- Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act (H.R. 8371)
- Fix VA’s Benefits Budget Shortfall (Veterans Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2024)
(Other alerts can be found at PVAction Force)
Use August recess as a time to use your voice and drive change. You can help influence policy, engage with your community leaders, and strengthen advocacy efforts for the year to come.
