The Air Carrier Access Amendments Act (ACAAA) is a much-needed addition to protecting the rights of disabled persons when traveling by air. The reauthorization of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) last occurred in 2018. This year is when Congress must once again reauthorize the FAA. While the ACAAA has a slim chance of passing as a standalone bill this year, the FAA reauthorization is a window of opportunity to allow it to go into effect. Individuals traveling with disabilities deserve the right to travel safely and with dignity.
If we do not take advantage of ensuring the ACAAA is included in the reauthorization, then it could be years before we get another chance. The most effective way to help legislators understand issues important to their constituents is to reach out to them. They care about what you have to say and they have a responsibility to consider the issues that affect you. That is why it is so important for everyone to contact their representatives and make sure they understand how important the issue is to them.
Listen to what PVA National President Charles Brown and Associate Executive Director of Government Relations Heather Ansley have to say about the importance of the ACAAA and why it is necessary HERE.
