  • Star Grassroots Advocates
    • PAEA’s Government Relations team would like to thank Government Relations Steering Committee member Angelique Redmond and Idaho State University PA program faculty member Paula Phelps who will be speaking during an upcoming webinar focused on expanding clinical placements for PA students at rural health clinics. Thank you for your advocacy!
  • Advancing PAEA’s Advocacy Agenda
    • In February, PAEA submitted letters of support to the Maryland and Illinois legislatures for pending Optimal Team Practice legislation in each state.
    • In response to significant stakeholder opposition, including from PAEA, congressional leaders eliminated a proposed provision in the Bipartisan Workforce Pell Act that would have restricted access to federal student aid for students attending high endowment universities in February.
  • Health Care News in Washington
    • On February 8, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committee held a hearing examining drug pricing practices in the United States.
    • On February 14, the House Energy and Commerce Health subcommittee held a legislative hearing to examine proposals to reauthorize expiring programs, including programs created by the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act which support training for health professions students in mental health and resilience best practices.
  • Opportunities for Action
    • Following the enactment of short-term continuing resolutions, Congress has just a few weeks left to finalize appropriations bills for fiscal year 2024. If you have not yet contacted your elected representatives, please urge Congress to support increased funding for all Title VII health workforce development programs for FY24 today.
