  • Advancing PAEA’s Advocacy Agenda
    • On December 6, PAEA sent a letter to Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee Chairman Bernie Sanders and Ranking Member Bill Cassidy applauding legislative action to reauthorize the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act. Among other provisions, the bill advanced by the committee in December would significantly increase the funding level for loan repayment assistance available to PAs providing substance use disorder care.
    • In early December, PAEA’s Government Relations team hosted a webinar for programs on the impact of recent Department of Education administrative capability regulations on clinical education. A recording of the session can be accessed here
  • Health Care News in Washington
    • On December 11, the House of Representatives passed the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act by a vote of 320-71. This wide-ranging health care legislation would reauthorize the National Health Service Corps scholarship and loan repayment programs through the end of 2025 at an annual mandatory level of $350 million.
    • On December 14, the Senate HELP Committee held a legislative hearing examining factors contributing to the increased prevalence of diabetes in the United States.
  • Opportunities for Action
    • As Congress continues to work to complete the FY24 appropriations process, members must continue to hear constituents advocate for strengthened health workforce investments to address provider shortages and their impact on the quality of care delivered to all communities. Please urge Congress to support increased funding for all Title VII health workforce development programs for FY24 today.
