Today, the Governor signed historic legislation (A.7328, Paulin / S.6897, Rivera) in support of New York's nursing homes which would incentivize facilities to reduce their use of temporary healthcare staffing agencies and direct resources to staff continuity through recruiting, hiring, and training new employees. This new law will advance staff retention, increase job satisfaction, and reduce staff turnover, which improves the overall quality of care and builds familiarity and trust between residents and staff. This is a true win for residents who come to rely on and place their trust in familiar, regular direct caregivers.
The bill was supported by both labor and management, who have been partnering for nearly a year to address the workforce crisis, increase the quality of care for residents, and ensure the financial stability of our State's nursing homes in the face of an aging population.
NYSHFA|NYSCAL applauds the Governor for her dedication and commitment to New York's elderly and frail residents.
