Nearly 100 Nevada REALTORS® members were in the Washington, DC area last week to attend NAR's annual Legislative Conference & Expo. For the first time, the event was hosted at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland - just south of Capitol Hill.
The highlight of the week came when Nevada's U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen met with NVR leaders to discuss real estate industry policy priorities. The U.S. House of Representatives was not in session, but staff members of Nevada's Congress members also met with NVR leaders to go over the key priorities.
The midyear conference had been canceled the past two years due to the pandemic. During an RPAC recognition event at the conference, three years worth of RPAC Hall of Fame honorees got to walk the stage and were recognized for their new status. Tom Blanchard ('21), Cheryl Delehanty (2020) Greg Martin ('19), Teresa McKee ('19), Brandon Roberts ('21), Buck Schaeffel ('20), Kevin Sigstad ('21), Brad Spires ('19), Dave Tina ('21) and Judie Woods (2020) were the NVR members who entered the Hall in recent years.
A trio of NVR members also had reached a new tier in their RPAC investment. Jack Woodcock ($125,000), George Peek ($100,000) and Nancy Anderson ($50,000) were all honored for that distinction.
Additionally, Sigstad was officially voted in as Regional Vice President. He will serve in that role for Region XI in 2023. He will host the annual region conference next spring in the Silver State.
The Legislative Conference wrapped up Friday with its Board of Directors meeting. The BOD approved a key change to the special assessment, which funds the Consumer Ad Campaign. The special assessment REALTORS® pay annually, in its 14th year at $35, will be raised $10 per member to $45 annually, and will remain at $45 for 5 years (2023-2027), rather than 3 years, before coming up for renewal. The justification was a $10/year increase for each member was the best way to generate the funds needed to keep the ad campaign competitive, rather than use and deplete ad campaign reserves.

Nevada REALTORS(R) is looking for 20 mentors and 20 mentees for the newly launched NAR Spire Program. This is an exciting mentorship program. The new initiative is an opportunity specifically targeting multi-cultural, minority communities, toward building bridges to the holistic real estate community.
This mentorship opportunity will help individuals learn the fundamentals of the real estate industry, foster education, empower serious consideration of real estate as a career path, and encourage and promote the development of generational wealth through property ownership.
The commitment is about 4 hours per month from July to November. NAR has designed the program for those mentees in real estate two years or less or not licensed yet.
Please contact Tiffany Banks at Tiffany@NVRealtors.org if you are interested in becoming a mentor or know someone who would make a phenomenal mentee. Applications close May 31, 2022 so there is time to match the participants. Here is the link to more details on the program.
REALTOR® members can apply to a 2023 Committee and help shape the direction of the National Association of REALTORS®. Through the May 13 deadline, members may submit their applications in order to be considered for a committee leadership or member position.
NVR members are encouraged to submit multiple applications (up to five) in order to be considered for all committees they have an interest in serving on. However, members will only receive one appointment, per current policy. Applications are compiled for review by NAR Officers during the NAR committee selection process.
To the extent possible, the composition of committees shall be representative of the general membership. While broad-based representation is desirable, this should not be construed as limiting the president from appointing the most knowledgeable and competent individuals available to serve on committees.
