Dear NPAA Members,
We are pleased to share an important update regarding House Bill 194. After productive negotiations with the Alabama State Nurses Association (ASNA) and the Alabama Board of Nursing (ABN), we have reached a compromise that maintains the core objective of the bill—ensuring the composition of the Joint Committee more accurately reflects practicing nurse practitioners in Alabama.
Under the amended bill:
✅ ASNA will nominate two names for one CRNP seat.
✅ NPAA will nominate two names for one CRNP seat.
✅ The Alabama Chapter of Nurse Midwives will nominate two names for one CNM seat.
Unfortunately, the provision requiring a supermajority vote to overrule a Joint Committee recommendation was removed. However, NPAA remains satisfied with the amendment, as the primary goal was to ensure practicing nurse practitioners are properly represented within the committee.
A word from our President, Eileen Meyer:
This achievement is a direct result of your advocacy and engagement. We appreciate your continued support as we move forward in strengthening the voice of nurse practitioners across the state.
