Protect Patients, Ensure Safe Access to GLP-1 Medications
GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro are helping millions of Americans manage diabetes and obesity. But alongside their success, unregulated and counterfeit products are putting patients at serious risk. Across the country, people are being exposed to illegitimate compounded versions, unauthorized imports, and online sales of unapproved GLP-1s. These products may contain incorrect ingredients or dosages, are not subject to FDA review, and can cause serious health complications. This is a regulatory crisis, and it demands immediate action from federal and state leaders.

We’re calling on the FDA Commissioner, Congress, and relevant oversight committees to:

  • Strengthen enforcement against unregulated and counterfeit GLP-1 products.
  • Close loopholes that allow unsafe compounding and online sales.
  • Increase transparency in safety reporting, labeling, and adverse event monitoring.
  • Educate prescribers and patients on how to identify legitimate, FDA-approved medications.

These are preventable dangers. Patients are counting on leadership and accountability from those with the authority to act.

Why this Matters:

Unregulated GLP-1 products endanger public health and undermine confidence in the healthcare system.

  • Counterfeit content: Some compounded and imported versions contain unknown or incorrect active ingredients, risking overdose, contamination, or serious side effects.
  • Inconsistent dosing: Without FDA oversight, dosage accuracy and sterility cannot be guaranteed.
  • Exploitive marketing: Online platforms and telehealth providers are selling “GLP-1 alternatives” that mislead consumers and evade safety review.
  • Regulatory gaps: Enforcement mechanisms have not kept pace with rapid growth in GLP-1 demand, allowing unsafe practices to flourish unchecked.

Without strong intervention, these risks will continue to hurt patients, damage trust, and erode legitimate medical progress.

Your voice matters. Share your experience and urge policymakers to act now to protect patient health and restore confidence in the system.
