Redistricting Update and 2022 Primary Elections
March 15, 2022 by Kay Castillo

North Carolinians have been watching since the Fall to see what voting districts will look like due to the state’s redistricting process. These districts determine where we will be voting and who represents us in office. The original maps drawn by legislative leadership were legally challenged by several organizations due to partisan and racial gerrymandering. The North Carolina Supreme Court ruled in February that the House and Senate maps were fine, but legislators needed to use externally drawn congressional maps due to the time-frame for candidate filing and voter education. The issue eventually made it to the U.S. Supreme Court and they decided on March 7th to allow alternative maps that were drawn externally to be used in the upcoming 2022 Primary Elections.
