Over the past few weeks, we’ve reviewed the impact of the 2024 elections on four key committees of healthcare jurisdiction and the shedding of 16% of committee members with retirements and leaders running for other offices. That’s 22 new key healthcare committee members we know of without the results of the upcoming November elections. If your congressional candidate of choice wins in the 2024 elections, he or she could be well-poised to greatly impact the 2024-2025 pharmacy agenda, especially as it relates to how leaders assemble, support bills of importance, and vet bills through key committees of jurisdiction.
Other examples can be seen in the important House Oversight & Accountability Committee, that will be losing Reps. Jake LaTurner (R-KS) and Katie Porter (D-CA). You’ve recently heard a great deal about this committee and our upcoming Virtual “PBM Patrol” Watch Party July 23rd at 10:00am ET. To date over 1,100 fellow advocates from 50 states have registered to watch the three largest PBMs as they testify before this committee. REGISTER NOW! We will use advocate numbers to inspire leaders to attend – or even speak up at – the hearing given they’ll know constituents will be watching for their leadership. Together we can significantly impact hearing discussions!
That said, its important to also consider election impact from the perspective of key issues or cosponsored legislation. See the below list to see U.S. Representatives not returning to Congress in 2025 and where they’ve stood on just some of the PBM reform sign-on letters, bills and votes: March PBM Reform Sign-On Letter; HR1613 Drug Price Transparency in Medicaid Act of 2023; HR2880 Protecting Patients Against PBM Abuses Act; HR3561 Patient Act of 2023; and HR5378 Lower Costs, More Transparency Act Vote.
