NACDS RxIMPACT needs your help telling state senators to vote yes on four pro-patient, pro-pharmacy bills to support and advance patient access and the pharmacies that serve them.
These important bills are slated to be voted upon by the entire state senate next week:
SB 789: Stop paying pharmacies below costs of acquiring the medications. This bill would ensure pharmacies can continue to provide essential and life-saving medications and other pharmacy care services to communities in Oklahoma without facing unreasonable and insufficient pharmacy benefits manager (PBM) reimbursement and manipulation. Take action to help us build support for fair reimbursement to local pharmacies by addressing critical issues such as below-cost reimbursement from PBMs, modifying pharmacy auditing requirements, and reforming other perverse tactics imposed by PBMs.
SB 906: Expand the pharmacist to pharmacy technician ratio in community pharmacies. This important bill increasing Oklahoma’s outdated and restrictive pharmacist to pharmacy technician ratio would protect and enhance public access to convenient healthcare services at neighborhood pharmacies. By increasing the number of pharmacy technicians that a pharmacist can supervise, this empowers pharmacists to optimize the pharmacy technician workforce and delegate more administrative and technical activities that do not require a pharmacist’s expertise, which in turn frees up pharmacists to focus more time on delivering clinical patient care and enhances pharmacies’ capacity to meet patient demand for pharmacy services.
SB 741 to allow pharmacists to test and treat minor ailments. Early detection and treatment of minor conditions can prevent progression to more serious illnesses and help decrease the number of non-urgent visits to emergency departments. It also will free up physicians to focus on more complex cases, improving overall healthcare efficiency. Pharmacies are more affordable and accessible; many pharmacies have evening and weekend hours with no need for appointments.
SB 806 to advance the Food Is Medicine Act. Improving access to nutrition and related services will provide the state with new opportunities to manage chronic diseases better for Medicaid beneficiaries while also incentivizing better health outcomes. Pharmacists are local and trusted experts in chronic disease - close to where people live, work, and grocery shop.
