Earlier this year, the Indiana Senate passed SB 140, a crucial bill designed to ensure that PBMs provide fair and adequate pharmacy reimbursement rates that reflect the true costs of dispensing medications. Before this legislation can be considered in the House, House Insurance Committee Chairman Rep. Martin Carbaugh needs to schedule a hearing. NACDS RxIMPACT needs your help telling state representatives to use their roles to support this important policy and advance the bill for House Insurance Committee consideration.
Indiana needs to enact long-overdue PBM legislation to fix a broken system and ensure access to care for patients and the pharmacies that serve them. The critical role of local pharmacies in Indiana’s health care system is being severely undermined by PBMs, who continue to inflate drug prices and restrict where residents can receive care. Local pharmacies serve as accessible care centers, provide vital health screenings, and offer reliable access in rural and hard-to-reach areas - services that are increasingly at risk under current PBM practices.
Unfortunately, PBMs have launched a widespread media campaign misrepresents SB 140 as a "pill tax" on consumers, which is a misleading representation of the bill's intent and impact. Other states have passed similar legislation without seeing an increase in costs to patients, and more states continue to propose similar legislation.
Help us build support and inspire a hearing for SB 140 as it remains imperative that this bill receives due consideration to address the pressing issues caused by PBM practices.
