The Pennsylvania General Assembly is preparing to pass HB 1993 legislation that includes pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) reforms and expanded immunization authority legislation THIS WEEK. Because the General Assembly soon will adjourn for the summer, this bill likely is the only opportunity in Pennsylvania this year to advance PBM reforms and to protect patients’ vaccine access at pharmacies before the expiration of the Federal Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act (PREP Act).
NACDS RxIMPACT is calling on YOU to join this letter-writing campaign to tell legislators it’s critical to enact meaningful reforms at the state level that protect Pennsylvanians access to healthcare services at pharmacies! Help us express how crucial these issues are to maintaining access to pharmacies in underserved rural and urban areas in the Commonwealth! We urge you to act NOW as the General Assembly moves quickly, and any perceived lack of support could stall the bill.
We believe the Pharmacy Audit Integrity and Transparency Act (HB 1993) by State Representative Jessica Benham will be advanced in the State Senate in the next 24 to 36 hours and go directly to the House of Representatives for a final vote before going to the Governor. NACDS RxIMPACT is calling on YOU to engage in this campaign to ensure the adoption of meaningful PBM reform. It is also our understanding the Senate will include provisions that will make access to routine childhood vaccines at pharmacies permanent and continue to allow trained pharmacy technicians to immunize under supervision.
