A bipartisan vote of 26-0 approved a second Senate Finance Committee bill containing significant PBM reforms in Medicare and Medicaid. This bipartisan package adds important components to the Committee-passed Modernizing and Ensuring PBM Accountability Act. Collectively, these policies embody not only Medicaid reforms of the NACDS-backed Drug Price Transparency in Medicaid Act , but also Medicare reforms of the NACDS-backed Neighborhood Options for Patients Buying Medicines (NO PBMs) Act like the must-have ability to ensure ‘reasonable and relevant’ PBM contract terms in Medicare Part D, strong Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services enforcement provisions, and pharmacy quality measures/PBM transparency.
Thank you to the hundreds of advocates responding to our call to action that reached 84 U.S. Senators in 42 states, and most notably 85% of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee. NACDS RxIMPACT is calling on YOU, and all others, to NOW channel your efforts on the U.S. House to help ensure that REAL PBM REFORM efforts at the federal level protect Americans on Medicare and Medicaid and their pharmacies!
The U.S. House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee is expected to meet next week to consider several legislative proposals, including to provide PBM reform. This momentum reflects a key opportunity to encourage cosponsorship of the NACDS-backed House Neighborhood Options for Patients Buying Medicines (NO PBMs) Act which also includes the must-have ability to ensure ‘reasonable and relevant’ PBM contract terms in Medicare Part D. It is imperative to sustain momentum behind this crucial effort. Just as we did with the Senate Finance Committee, help us advocate PBM reforms so they are considered and advanced through the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee!
You have the power to tell Congress to stand strong and confront ‘pharmaceutical benefit manipulation’ in the legislative process. We know PBMs will attack and complicate these straightforward and necessary reforms in misleading ways. Help us share the powerful REAL PBM REFORM ad message and remind the U.S. House, if all patients don’t benefit from this package, it’s not REAL PBM REFORM.
