03/21/23 NACDS RxIMPACT Action Alert (NY): 11 Days to Fend Off “PBMs Over Patient” Repeal!
If there was ever a time to engage in a New York letter-writing campaign, that moment is NOW.

Despite incredible community efforts, both chambers of the New York State Legislature repealed the pro-patient and pro-pharmacy NYRx Medicaid pharmacy benefit transition set for April 1, 2023. Although a tremendously disappointing setback, our community is resilient and MUST use the opportunity of the next 11 days to tell leaders to stay the course!

Advocates tirelessly met with legislators. The community sent thousands upon thousands of letters. Radio and digital ads created air cover for a vigorous pro-patient, pro-pharmacy campaign in New York.  But our work is not yet done. Together we must tell leaders to keep the carve out proposed in Governor Hochul’s budget so patients have an opportunity to have expanded pharmacy care, and the state will have a more equitable and transparent program!

For the past three years, the State has been staging its “NYRx” April 2023 reform and has the operational systems and vendors in place to help ensure a smooth and positive change for Medicaid patients. Although the New York State Legislature flipped on its commitment to carry out NYRx Medicaid pharmacy benefit transition April 1, 2023 in each chamber’s budget last week, we need to make sure there is not a repeal in the final state budget also due April 1st.

With your engagement TODAY, we can help New York join other states that have moved prescription drug coverage from Managed Care plans which are administered by pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) back to Medicaid Fee for Service, so they are directly administered by the State. NACDS RxIMPACT is calling on you to engage on all fronts as leaders still have time to support the NYRx Medicaid pharmacy benefit transition set for April 1, 2023. Together, let’s defend patients and pharmacies in New York State’s Medicaid program by sending letters, and repeat letters, EVERY DAY!

Use our online letter-writing system to tell New York leaders we are tremendously disappointed in the New York State Legislature’s repeal of the April 1 NYRx Medicaid pharmacy benefit transition, but they still have time to make things right and put patients before PBMs. Simply  enter your contact information, click "Send Message" and the system will send personalized messages to each of your legislators.
