Last Friday, April 26, 2024, marked a pivotal moment in the California legislative process, as bills faced a constitutional deadline to progress out of their respective policy committees. Notably, among the bills ushered forward by the Assembly Health Committee was AB 2200, a significant proposal aiming to institute a single-payer health care program in California.
Despite robust Operation Shout engagement from CAHIP members, AB 2200 narrowly passed with the minimum required votes and is now poised for consideration by the Assembly’s Appropriations Committee. With the next crucial deadline of May 17, 2024, looming, this committee will determine the next step of the bill’s fate – either advancing it to the Assembly Floor or bringing it to a halt because of cost concerns.
Our collective efforts came close to halting the bill’s momentum in the previous committee, showcasing the importance of CAHIP’s continued advocacy. We urge you to reach out to your Assemblymember and voice your opposition to AB 2200. Please take a moment to participate in our latest Operation Shout campaign to OPPOSE AB 2200 with our health insurance agent voice. Together, let’s make our voices heard and ensure that the interests of our members are represented effectively in Sacramento.
Additionally, to empower your clients to voice their opposition to AB 2200, we encourage you to guide them to the webpage of our Protect California Health Care coalition. Here, they can actively participate in constituent-facing communication efforts. This coalition represents a unified front of influential health care organizations throughout the state, including CAHIP, the California Association of Health Plans (CAHP), the California Chamber of Commerce (CalChamber), America’s Physician Groups, the California Hospital Association, and others.
Thank you,
National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals - California Chapter (CAHIP)
