The Older Americans Act (OAA) is the foundational source of federal support and funding for local senior nutrition programs like yours, allowing the nationwide network to deliver more than 251 million meals to 2.2 million seniors annually. Our Fiscal Year 2025 appropriations request of $1.842 billion would fund local programs at levels necessary to address the needs of our rapidly growing aging population that is increasingly threatened by hunger and isolation.
However, the funding limits established for Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 through the Fiscal Responsibility Act in 2023 could result in severely reduced funding for discretionary programs, such as the OAA Nutrition Program. These funding cuts would directly impact programs like yours and could result in millions of seniors losing Meals on Wheels service. It is critical to urge your Members of Congress to steer clear of any proposals that would increase hunger or threaten the health and quality of life of vulnerable older adults. We need lawmakers to work together to strengthen and invest in Meals on Wheels programs nationwide in FY 2025!
Members of Congress need to hear from their constituents and local leaders like you! Sharing a short story about your program and its impact in your community will help your Members of Congress understand the importance of the services you provide and funding this critical program for seniors.
