Meals on Wheels America’s President and CEO Ellie Hollander and the National Association of Nutrition and Aging Services Programs' (NANASP) Executive Director Bob Blancato released a joint press statement regarding the final passage of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 appropriations package. Signed into law over the weekend, H.R. 2882, the Further Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024, included funding for the Labor-HHS-Education bill, where Meals on Wheels programs are primarily funded. This law includes an .8% ($8 million) cut to the Older Americans Act (OAA) Nutrition Program. While there was an overall $8 million decrease for the program, there was a combined $40 million increase in Congregate and Home-Delivered nutrition services. Both Meals on Wheels America and NANASP urge Congress to step up and fund the OAA, as life-saving programs like Meals on Wheels and the older adults they serve deserve better.
