Meals on Wheels America submitted a response to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) request for information regarding food is medicine research opportunities. Meals on Wheels America is committed to the all-sector approach to ending hunger, improving nutrition and physical activity, and reducing diet-related diseases. The federal government can support these efforts by establishing home-delivered meals as a fully reimbursable benefit for fee-for-service Medicare, Medicare Advantage and Medicaid and implementing medically tailored meal pilots and initiatives that utilize community-based senior nutrition programs. These recommendations are backed by extensive research cited within the response.
