Our court system allows consumers to hold manufacturers of products accountable when they are unsafe, and to remove those unsafe products from the market. This has not been the case with vaccines. The 1986 act provided a means by which vaccine manufacturers had protection, leaving Americans with very limited options should they be injured by a vaccine.
The bill would provide these measures:
- Allow families injured by vaccines to sue in court.
- Remove the 2-3-year statute of limitations for lawsuits against vaccine manufacturers, opening up the option for families of the injured to sue since the 1986 Act became law.
- Remove COVID-19 shots from the Countermeasures Injury Compensation Program (CICP), which removes all liability protection.
The bill was referred to the Energy & Commerce Committee. Two Michigan Representatives are seated on this committee: Debbie Dingell(D-District 6) and John James (R-District 10). There is currently no hearing scheduled on the committee calendar.
