Congress: Oppose Catastrophic Research Cuts

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recently announced a major reduction in grant funding that would have a catastrophic impact on research, especially in the neuromuscular disease field. NIH funding has led to amazing discoveries, including the underlying mechanisms of genetic neuromuscular diseases, breakthroughs in gene therapy for neuromuscular diseases, and effective treatments for spinal muscular atrophy, Pompe disease, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and more.

Cutting funding now would stop all this remarkable progress in its tracks.

Specifically, the NIH has made a major reduction in funding indirect costs, which are unavoidable in conducting research and include keeping the lights on, cleaning the labs, covering administrative costs, and much more.

These cuts would be disastrous. If implemented, current research will stop, clinical trials will shut down, and research staff will be let go. As we sit on the cusp of genetic medicine breakthroughs for many neuromuscular diseases, these cuts are all the more unacceptable.

Tell your member of Congress to oppose these cuts now!
