Did you know that every time children and their families cross state lines to seek care for a neuromuscular disease, the providers that offer needed medical care must continually reenroll in out-of-state Medicaid programs? Each time a family seeks care across state lines, access to specialized, high-quality medical care is slowed – burdening families and allowing their diseases to irreversibly progress in the process.
We can change that by urging lawmakers to support the Accelerating Kids’ Access to Care Act, H.R.4758 / S.2372, bipartisan legislation that streamlines the Medicaid enrollment process and allows out-of-state care providers to stay enrolled in state Medicaid programs for five years. This improves access to timely and appropriate medical care without delays caused by government red tape. We need your support to ensure this important bill for our community becomes law.
On September 17, the bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives, but our work is not yet done! We still need as many Senators as possible supporting the bill and urging it to be included in the end-of-year priorities that Senators are currently working on. Reach out to your Senators and urge them to take committee action in the Senate Finance Committee, which is the next step for the bill.
If you or a loved one have experienced challenges in accessing out-of-state medical care, add your experiences in your message to your senators. Share this action alert with others who may have similar experiences.
