No one should be punished for working, getting a promotion, receiving a pay raise, or saving for the future. For those living with a disability and relying on Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, this is an unfortunate reality.
Since 1984, SSI’s asset limits have been stuck at $2,000 for individuals, and $3,000 for couples. This prevents many folks living with a disability from preparing for the future and providing their families with financial security.
The SSI Penalty Elimination Act makes changes to these asset limits. If passed, this bill would increase asset limits to $10,000 for individuals and $20,000 for couples while factoring in inflation with any changes to future limits. This legislation would go a long way in providing economic independence for the disability community, and we need your help in showing support for this legislation that provides greater empowerment for millions of Americans.
