For over a year and half now, MDA has been advocating for the inclusion of provisions that would make air travel more accessible for those with disabilities, and particularly those who use wheelchairs, in this year’s FAA reauthorization. We are incredibly grateful to the House of Representatives for passing the most substantial improvements to air travel accessibility in almost four decades, and to the members of the Senate Commerce Committee for their commitment to including accessibility provisions in their FAA reauthorization bill.
While we had hoped to see the President sign these improvements in air travel accessibility into law by September 30, Congress recently passed a bill to extend the current FAA authorization from 2018 for three-months to allow Members to finish their work on the 2023 FAA Reauthorization. Though we are disappointed by this delay, MDA remains committed to maintaining momentum and marshalling all our resources to ensure that people with disabilities can fly with dignity.
Stay tuned for ways that you can engage your members of Congress to get us over the finish line!
