Views From the Capitol – Lame Duck Edition Recording Available

On Monday, the Government Relations team held a webinar covering the recent election and what to expect for the final weeks of the current session. We talked about current legislation in committee, issues that may still come up, bills that could come back up and what may make it to the governor’s desk.  If you missed the live event, you can now view it on our YouTube Channel. Lame duck session is usually mysterious and this year will not be any different.

As legislation begins to move, please be on the lookout for alerts and updates in your email. You can also find any active alerts on our website.  As always, if you have questions, please feel free to contact us.

What are Your Priorities? The Survey is Now Available

During September, October and November, the MASB Government Relations Team took to the road and held 10 regional meetings to gather input from our members on what they think MASB’s legislative priorities should be for the upcoming 2025-2026 session. As a member organization, our Government Relations Committee and Board of Directors use this input to inform the issues that are most important for our legislators to hear about.

All ideas we gathered at the meetings have been complied into a legislative priority survey for you to rank your most important priorities. The link to the survey was sent out to members on Thursday, Nov 21, 2024.

We have narrowed the issue areas to four categories:

  1. Finance
  2. Governance/Infrastructure
  3. Staffing
  4. Student Supports/Curriculum

Please complete the survey by no later than 5 p.m. on Dec. 6, 2024. The top vote-getters in each category will be shared with the Government Relations Committee to be further developed and narrowed down.

Please take a few minutes to lend your voice to this important process and encourage your fellow board members to do the same. Your survey participation will specifically direct our legislative goals. Again, thank you to all who participated in the meetings.

Registration is Now Open for NSBA’s Advocacy and Equity Institute

The National School Board Association’s annual Advocacy and Equity Institute will take place February 2 - 4, 2025, in Washington, D.C., at the Marriott Marquis.

This is a new format this year as NSBA has combined the Equity Symposium and Advocacy Institute. Please note the Institute starts earlier this year with the first breakout session beginning at 10:30 AM.

This new and refined conference is dedicated to advancing educational equity and advocating for policies that foster inclusive learning environments for K-12 public schools. Register today and join board members from across the country in supporting public education with our elected officials in Congress.  Early Bird Registration ends December 13, 2024.
