Light Legislative Session Schedule for Fall

While both the House and Senate originally scheduled session days throughout September, we are hearing they will not be meeting.  The Senate is expected to come in the last 2 weeks of the month and the House only the last week. October could be just as light.

News From the Capitol will be published as there is news to report; in the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact us. And be sure to check out the rest of this newsletter with all the upcoming events we have for you to be involved in our advocacy efforts.

Go Behind the Scenes at the Capitol in September

MASB will hold its next Behind the Scenes at the Capitol event on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, in the State Room of Heritage Hall in the State Capitol Building from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event is a great opportunity to come to Lansing and hear from legislators and issue experts on topics currently before the Legislature.

Our agenda will include a presentation by Baldly Bipartisan’s Adrian Hemond and John Selleck on the upcoming election and a discussion on what issues could arise during the lame-duck session. It also allows for networking between districts to learn from one another.

We hope you will join us and take advantage of the opportunity to speak face-to-face about issues affecting your districts with fellow board members from around the state as well as your legislators and their staff.

Register today!

MASB Legislative Priority Meetings are Coming to Your Region

Legislative Priority Setting Meetings are being scheduled throughout the state in September and October. These meetings will bring together board members, superintendents and MASB’s Government Relations staff to brainstorm your Association’s focus for the 2024-2025 legislative session.

All events are free and start at 7 p.m., unless otherwise noted. Please join us and encourage your local colleagues—board members and superintendents alike—to participate in these important events. MASB’s legislative agenda is only as strong as the number of voices who create it. If you can’t attend the day of your region’s meeting, feel free to attend another one that is convenient for you.

You can find a complete list of all the regional meetings and links to the free registration on our website. If you have any questions, please contact the Government Relations Team.

Save the Date – Views From the Capitol - Lame Duck Edition

Save the date for your MASB Government Relations Team’s Views From the Capitol webinar as we do an election recap, discuss what issues we are watching in lame duck, what rumors are still swirling, and take your questions.

The webinar will be held on Monday, Nov 18, 2024, at noon. Registration will open as the date gets closer.
