The Senate Farm Bill currently under consideration this week cuts hundreds of millions (nearly $2 billion from EQIP alone) from the very programs, EQIP and CSP, that fund the Regenerative Agriculture Pilot. These are the programs that give farmers the financial ability to transition to soil-building, pesticide-reducing practices. Without that funding, regenerative farming stays out of reach for the farms that need it most.
Big Ag and the chemical industry want it this way. They are pushing to delay critical health reviews of glyphosate, atrazine, and other endocrine-disrupting pesticides for years longer so they can keep spraying without accountability. At the same time, they are cutting the exact tools that would let farmers escape the pesticide treadmill. The result if these cuts pass: more chemical dependency, more childhood cancers, more infertility, and more poisoned soil and food.
Regenerative agriculture is the solution that actually works — rebuilding soil health so crops need fewer (or no) synthetic pesticides and herbicides. The administration launched the Regenerative Pilot and issued an executive order supporting it for a reason. Congress is now trying to undermine that effort in the fine print of the Farm Bill.
MAHA needs to hear from everyone right now.
Congress must understand exactly what these sections mean before they vote. Call, email, and post. Tell the Senate Agriculture Committee: Do not cut EQIP and CSP. Protect the regenerative off-ramp. Put people over poison.
The pesticide industry is counting on silence. Don’t give it to them.
