Remove Section 48
The Free State of Florida should be leading the MAHA movement, not muzzling it. Section 48 of SB 290, the Florida farm bill, creates a special “agricultural disparagement” law that makes it easier for powerful interests to sue citizens, advocates, and small groups who speak out about food safety and farming practices. It targets speech about a wide range of agricultural products—including sugar—uses vague standards about what counts as “reliable scientific” information, and threatens critics with expensive lawsuits and punitive damages, even when they act in good faith.
