Do Not Support SB 527
Tennessee Senate Bill 527, introduced in 2025 by Senator John Stevens and two Republican co-sponsors, protects pesticide manufacturers and sellers from civil lawsuits over labeling if the pesticide was registered with both Tennessee agriculture officials and the EPA under federal law (FIFRA), and had an EPA-approved label at the time of sale. This shields them from claims like failure to warn, as long as they followed state and federal rules. The bill takes effect immediately if passed, aiming to reduce legal risks for pesticide companies.

The Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Movement does not support this bill because it grants broad immunity to pesticide makers, limiting accountability for potential harms from their products. Kennedy has long highlighted how pesticides contaminate food, water, and soil, contributing to chronic diseases and environmental damage. This liability shield prioritizes corporate protection over public safety, making it harder for affected families to seek justice and clashing with MAHA's demand for strict oversight of toxic chemicals that threaten health.
