Have a Heart for God’s Planet

Did you know that your church can join thousands of others who are making their communities more ecologically sustainable using clean energy tax credits?

Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act passed in 2022, religious communities are eligible to receive direct government payments for the installation of solar panels, charging stations, and heat and power systems—making a significant step towards treating God’s planet with care all while saving thousands in electricity bills. With these tax credits, after just two years of implementation, American taxpayers saved over $5 billion a year on their electricity bills. These benefits are also projected to create 1.5 million jobs a key factor in creating a strong economy. And this won’t just affect those who choose to invest in clean energy in their homes, cars, or places of worship. Due to these tax incentives, demand for fossil fuels is declining by as much as 16 percent for petroleum and 20 percent for natural gas over the coming decade. When demand falls, prices fall, and that benefits everyone. This could translate into significant price reductions for the domestic manufacturers and households who continue to depend on these fuels.

But clean energy tax credits are currently under threat. Congress is proposing nixing this program to save money so they can instead spend it on tax breaks for the rich, mass deportations, and military spending.

This Valentine’s Day, advocates from across this nation are meeting with House and Senate offices to tell their elected representatives to have a heart for climate and protect these clean energy tax credits. Raise your voice alongside advocates on the ground to tell Congress they must preserve these crucial tax credits NOW!
