Protect our Immigrant Neighbors! Urge Congress to Vote NO on S. 5
This week the US Senate is voting on S.5, also known as the Laken Riley Act. This bill will criminalize immigrants and apply “mandatory detention” for any undocumented person arrested or charged, rather than convicted, of a non-violent theft-related offense, without any opportunity to even request release on bond. This mandatory immigration detention is applied solely on the basis of an arrest or charge, risking the prolonged detention of innocent people.

Throughout Scripture, we are called to welcome our immigrant neighbors and walk in solidarity with marginalized communities. This bill violates our values of love and mercy, and we urge you to contact your senators and tell them to vote NO on S.5.
