Catholic social teaching is clear that we have a moral duty to protect our common home, and solar generation can be a part of that by lessening our reliance on fossil fuels.
Along with the Iowa Faith & Climate Network, the Iowa Catholic Conference supports the Local Generation Act, which would provide more energy choices for Iowans and help keep rising energy costs in check. The bill, HF 2672, would help establish community solar programs to provide an option for people who may not be able to put solar on their own homes. It would allow multiple Iowans to subscribe to a single, local solar project and receive credits directly on their utility bills.
The bill would also allow a parish with solar panels and a rectory on their property, for example, to share the same clean energy benefits. Community solar also would allow churches to subscribe to a shared local solar project without installing panels onsite. This makes clean energy accessible to churches that otherwise cannot participate.
Please contact your state representative, in your own words, and ask them to support the bill. Thank you.
