HF 2563 has been passed by the House Health and Human Services Committee and is eligible for debate on the House floor. You are encouraged to contact your state representative in support of the bill so it can go to the Senate. The proposal requires:
- Information given to the mother about the possibility of a reversal of the attempted abortion
- Iowa HHS to publish information on the possibility of reversing a chemical abortion
- An in-person exam of the mother who plans to receive abortion pills
- Certification from the pregnant woman that she has been informed of all the risks commonly associated with the medication abortion
- The drugs to be dispensed in a health care setting directly to the woman prescribed the drug
- Complications and adverse events to be reported to HHS
- That the woman be able to sue those who dispense the drug in violation of the law
The bill is also clear that care can be provided to a woman having an emergency with her pregnancy.
Most abortions are drug-induced. The FDA has cited studies indicating that 85% of women who take abortion drugs will suffer at least one adverse reaction, and about 1 in 25 women will end up in the emergency room. Unfortunately, abortion drugs are widely available on the black market, online, without seeing a medical provider.
While we do not support abortion, as a life is lost, we do support limiting the harm being done to mothers. Please contact your state representative, in your own words, and ask them to support the bill. Thank you.
