— CALL TO ACTION —
Tell Congress to pass H.R. 82/S. 597
The "Social Security Fairness Act"
The “Social Security Fairness Act” would repeal both the “Windfall Elimination Provision” and the “Government Pension Offset” in current Social Security law. In the House, H.R. 82 was introduced by Representatives Garret Graves (R-LA) and Abigail Spanberger. In the Senate, S. 597 was introduced by Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Susan Collins (R-ME).
The repeal of the Windfall Elimination (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO) has been a top legislative priority for the FOP since 1997. We’ve had years in which we’ve had good support and the potential for committee action and years when we did not. In the 117th Congress, we had historically high support for the House bill, H.R. 82.
The FOP has been waging a very targeted lobbying campaign by going after Members of Congress one at a time by building support and educating staff. Our success, however, comes down to YOU! Please get in touch with each of your Members of Congress and ask them to support the Social Security Fairness Act!
