Protect Consumer Choice and RMR in Tennessee
Tennessee's lawmakers are considering legislation that could disrupt recurring monthly revenue and put consumers of security and life safety systems at risk.

The bills (HB 420 and SB 302) would make it harder to automatically renew contracts.  Notifications would need to be sent to consumers between 15 and 45 days before the renewal of the contract. The notification would also have to include clear language about how to cancel.

Easy mechanisms, such as "Click to Cancel" buttons, make it more likely that mistakes will take place and the consumer will be unaware of the lack of monitoring of their security or life safety systems. Utilities do not follow this same protocol, and we believe we provide a similar critical service.

Contact your legislator now to urge them for an exemption for the industry.
