Thanks to a strong lobbying effort and intense discussions between the Jindal adminsitration and key legislators, efforts to remove $100 million in Priority 1 projects and an additional $106.4 million in funding for new projects and supplemental funding of existing projects, was headed off.
Ways & Means Committee Chairman Hunter Greene announced, when HB 2, the capital outlay bill was taken up by committee, that it has been determined that sufficient funds are available for bonding of the projects, and as a consequence of that NO COMMITTEE amendments would be offered [to remove the projects].
This is a significant victory for AGC and the construction industry, already reeling from a weakened economy, dwindeling surpluses (one-time money normally used to supplement construction spending by the state), and dramatic drops in revenues from the TTF.
Thanks to all of you who responded to our "Call To Action" that began last Thursday and continued through the day yesterday. We don't utilize our "Call To Action" often, so when we do it means that legislators are in need of contacts from their constituents back home. For those of you who responded, you have our sincere thanks. Always, always act when you receive a "Call To Action" as it means that we really need your help. |
