The Standing with Moms Act would simply create a website (Life.gov) listing local, state, and federal resources already available for expectant moms and families. Women should be more aware of the many resources available to them when facing an unexpected or particularly difficult pregnancy. Unfortunately, many struggle to find help when they are most in need, unaware that legislators and other public and private entities have already set up mechanisms to help in their areas of need.

Many women in these situations feel like they are alone. Eighty-six percent of women who had abortions in 2020 were unmarried. Mothers with unexpected pregnancies fear that they won’t be able to get the necessary support during and after the pregnancy. Every legislator should support giving mothers more information about the various services available to them at every level. 

Such a resource can be lifesaving especially when one considers the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) vast resources, preexisting intergovernmental relationships, and the credibility intrinsic to a “.gov” address.  

This one-stop-shop website would be an indispensable tool for an expectant mom to learn about the public and private resources available in her zip code to assist her throughout pregnancy and afterward. The resources would cover areas of need like, health care and OB-GYN services, financial assistance, prepartum and postpartum services, etc..
