Protect the Charles River – Help stop lane expansion on the Mass Pike.
In July 2025, the Trump Administration rescinded $327 million in federal funding for the Allston Multimodal (I-90) project. This deals a considerable blow, but also presents an opportunity — As officials reevaluate how to fund the project, now is the time to advocate for a better, cheaper plan with fewer lanes of highway.

As a reminder, MassDOT is planning a massive reconfiguration of Interstate 90, Soldiers Field Road and the Framingham/Worcester railroad line along the Charles River in Allston known as the Allston Multimodal (I-90) Project

While we support this effort to improve transportation infrastructure and free up unused land for development, the current plan has a major flaw: MassDOT wants to build 12 lanes of traffic between Boston University and the Charles River. This leaves little room for pedestrians, parkland, and river restoration, and would also undercut the state's and the City of Boston's goals of cutting car traffic to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Please join us in calling on MassDOT to redesign this project with fewer lanes, allowing more room for restoration, saving millions of taxpayer dollars and supporting the state's climate goals.
