Urging Governor J.B. Pritzker to Veto HB 3360
More than a week ago, the Chicago Medical Society launched an extensive ad campaign through the Chicago Sun-Times and Politico urging Governor J.B. Pritzker to veto House Bill 3360, a harmful measure backed by the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and passed by the General Assembly, which would add to the cost of healthcare and harm physicians already reeling from the historic COVID-19 pandemic. We’ve been vigorously contacting his office to urge his veto.

What’s especially shocking is that lawmakers passed HB 3360 at 3:00 a.m. without public comment or notice. While most voters were sound asleep, physicians were working through the night, caring for patients. The legislation is an insult to the medical community that has made enormous personal and professional sacrifices throughout the pandemic. And you can be sure your Chicago Medical Society has taken note; already we have committed over $40,000 in ads to fighting this latest power play by trial attorneys.

We now ask you, a much valued member of the Chicago Medical Society, to unite behind us in this campaign and reinforce our efforts.

Please write Governor Pritzker to let him know how the legislation will impact you and your practice. Feel free to modify our attached sample letter in your communications to the governor’s office.

Your support is urgently needed to prevent the prejudgment interest bill from becoming law. Please enlist your colleagues in this critical effort.
