Your elected officials need to hear from you! Constituents who live and work in community associations (homeowners associations, condominiums, housing cooperatives) provide a unique perspective to help inform the opinions of legislators and influence their votes. Legislators who hear from personal or professional connections are twice as likely to support them in legislative efforts.
Legislators depend on your first-hand experience and knowledge to help inform their decisions. Please take a minute to introduce yourself and urge your legislators to support homeowners in community associations. Remember to first identify yourself as a constituent, resident, and/or professional working with a community association. Then personalize the message with some of the following examples:
- Explain how an issue you’re passionate about will affect you and/or your community.
- Offer positive suggestions to address the state of associations now. Encourage them to adhere to CAI's public policies.
If applicable, be specific about the action you want from the legislator (support/oppose/amend specific current legislation). - Request a letter of reply stating the official's position on the issue (make sure you provide your name, address, and telephone number).
- Carefully proof your email for grammar and spelling before sending.
By reaching out, you can help establish CAI as the go-to resource for legislators working on issues related to the community association industry.
